Oakland is a small city in Douglas County, Oregon, in the United States. It is located about 2 miles (3.2 km) from Interstate 5. In 2020, about 934 people lived there.

A Look at Oakland's Past

Oakland has a very special history. It was the first city in Oregon to be put on the state's historic register. This happened in May 1968.

Historic Buildings and Shops

The main shopping area in Oakland is two blocks long. It has many original brick buildings. These buildings were constructed in the 1880s and 1890s. Stearns Hardware is a very old store. It has been open since 1887. The store moved into the Stearns Hardware Building in 1891. More than 80 buildings in the city were built between 1852 and 1890. The Oakland Historic District is a special area. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in March 1979. This means it is a very important historic place.
