Fairfield is a small town located in Utah County, Utah, in the United States. It's part of the larger Provo–Orem area. You can find it in the southwest part of Cedar Valley. It's about 50 miles southwest of Salt Lake City and 5 miles south of Cedar Fort. The town is located along Utah State Route 73, west of Utah Lake. In 2010, only 119 people lived here, making it a very small community.
History of Fairfield
Fairfield was started in 1855. A man named John Carson and his four brothers, along with others, settled in the Cedar Valley. At first, the settlement was known as Frogtown.
The town's population grew a lot when Johnston's Army arrived in 1858-1859. This army was sent to Utah because people thought there might be a rebellion. The army set up a camp nearby called Camp Floyd. The population of Frogtown quickly grew to over 7,000 people. This included 3,500 soldiers, which was almost one-third of the entire U.S. Army at that time! There were also many other people who came with the army.
However, there was no rebellion. So, in 1861, the soldiers were called back. They were sent east to fight in the Civil War.
Frogtown changed its name to Fairfield in 1861. It was named after Amos Fielding, who helped start the community.
The Stagecoach Inn is a famous building in Fairfield. It's now a museum. In the past, it was used by people traveling by stagecoach. Soldiers and riders on the Pony Express trail also used it.
Fairfield officially became an incorporated town in 2004. This happened because people were worried about nearby communities growing too much. Today, Fairfield is known for farming. It's also a place where tourists visit Camp Floyd State Park. The town also has a large construction landfill.
