Fairmead is located about 11 miles (18 km) northwest of the city of Madera. It sits at an elevation of 253 feet (77 meters) above sea level. The community is also bordered by Chowchilla to its northwest. In 2020, about 1,235 people lived in Fairmead.
A post office served Fairmead from 1913 until 1940. The community is currently affected by the California High-Speed Rail project. The planned route for this fast train will pass through Fairmead, which means some residents might need to move.
