Fairview is a community in Dutchess County, New York. It is called a "hamlet" and also a "census-designated place" (CDP). A CDP is a special area that the government counts for population. It is not an officially incorporated city or town. In 2020, about 5,475 people lived in Fairview. It is part of the larger Poughkeepsie–Newburgh–Middletown area. It is also part of the even bigger New York metropolitan area.

Where is Fairview Located?
Fairview is a community that sits within two towns: Poughkeepsie and Hyde Park. The city of Poughkeepsie borders Fairview to the south.
You can find U.S. Route 9 along the western edge of Fairview. Another important road, New York State Route 9G (also called Violet Avenue), runs north and south right through the middle of the community.
Fairview is also home to parts of two colleges. A section of Marist College is in the western part of the area. Dutchess Community College is located in the eastern part. To the north, Fairview reaches as far as Dorsey Lane in Hyde Park.
