Fairview was laid out in 1886, and named for the scenic valley setting of the site.

As of the census of 2010, there were 60 people, 27 households, and 18 families residing in the town. The population density was 666.7 inhabitants per square mile (257.4/km2). There were 31 housing units at an average density of 344.4 per square mile (133.0/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 100.0% White.
There were 27 households, of which 29.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.6% were married couples living together, 3.7% had a female householder with no husband present, 7.4% had a male householder with no wife present, and 33.3% were non-families. 29.6% of all households were made up of individuals, and 18.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
