Fairwood is a special area, or 'ward,' located in the City and County of Swansea, Wales, in the UK. A ward is like a local neighborhood or district. It helps organize how people vote for their local government.

This ward includes parts of several communities. These are Dunvant, Upper Killay, Poundffald, and Three Crosses. Fairwood is part of the larger Gower area for national elections.

Fairwood is surrounded by other wards. To the southwest, you'll find Gower and Pennard. To the northwest is Penclawdd. Gowerton is to the northeast. To the east, there is Dunvant and Killay. Finally, Mayals is to the southwest, and Bishopston is to the south.

The village of Upper Killay is an important part of the Fairwood ward. It is located about 3.5 miles west of the center of Swansea.

Local Elections in Fairwood

Local elections are when people vote for representatives to manage their local area. These representatives are called councillors. They make decisions about local services like parks, roads, and schools.

Fairwood's Voting History

In the local council elections for Swansea in 2012, many people in Fairwood voted. About 49.72% of eligible voters participated. This shows that almost half of the people who could vote did so.

Here are the results from that election:

Candidate Party Votes Status
Paxton Richard Hood-Williams Conservative 583 Conservative hold
John Bushell Liberal Democrats 317
Mike Durke Labour 247

The term "Conservative hold" means that the Conservative Party kept control of this ward. They had won it in previous elections and won it again. The Conservative Party has been winning elections in the Fairwood ward since 1995. Paxton Hood-Williams has been the councillor representing Fairwood since 2004.
