Faisal Ahmed Hassan is a Canadian politician. He was a member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario. This is like being a representative for a part of Ontario. He was elected in 2018 and served until 2022. He represented the area called York South—Weston. He was part of the Ontario New Democratic Party.
Early Life and Moving to Canada
Faisal Hassan was born in Somalia. He moved to Canada in 1990. He first lived in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Helping Communities
For more than 15 years, Faisal Hassan helped people with housing problems in Toronto. He worked with groups like Midaynta Community Services. He also worked with the Toronto Community Hostel and Woodgreen Housing. He wanted to make sure everyone had a safe place to live.
Political Work
Before being elected, Faisal Hassan ran as a candidate for the NDP. This was in the 2015 federal election. He also worked to help other politicians. He was a constituency assistant for Paul Ferreira and Mike Sullivan. This means he helped them serve their communities.
During the COVID-19 pandemic in Ontario, he worked to help people. He spoke out for a rule to stop people from being evicted. This would have helped people stay in their homes during a difficult time.
Faisal Hassan was also part of Ontario's first ever Black Caucus. A caucus is a group of politicians who work together. He was with other NDP members like Laura Mae Lindo and Jill Andrew.
