Farhad Hasanzadeh (Persian: فرهاد حسن‌زاده) is a famous writer and poet from Iran. He was born on April 9, 1962. He is especially known for writing amazing books and poems for children and teenagers.

Farhad Hasanzadeh's Life Story

Farhad Hasanzadeh was born in Abadan, a city in southern Iran, in 1962. When he was young, a war between Iran and Iraq (from 1980 to 1988) forced him to leave his hometown. Abadan was in the war zone, so it was not safe.

He had many different jobs before he started writing. His very first book, Fox and Bee Adventure (Persian: ماجرای روباه و زنبور), was published in 1991 in Shiraz. Later, he moved to Tehran, which is the capital city of Iran.

His Writing Journey

Farhad Hasanzadeh has written over 120 books for children and young adults. His books include many different types of stories, like novels, short stories, legends, fantasy tales, funny stories, biographies, and poetry.

He has also written for children's and young adults’ magazines. Some of these include "Soroosh Nojavan" and "Soroosh Koodak". He was also a member of the Children Writers Association. He even gave a speech at the United Nations office in Tehran in 2019. He talked about how peace and literature are important for children and teenagers.

Books Translated into Other Languages

Many of Farhad Hasanzadeh's books have been translated into different languages. You can find his stories in English, Swedish, Spanish, Arabic, Russian, Malay, and Chinese.

For example, his book Call Me Ziba has been translated into four languages. Another book, Kooti Kooti, is available in Chinese, English, Arabic, Turkish, Swedish, and Malay. His book Hasti, which talks about Iranian girls and their identity, was translated into English in 2013 and into Turkish in 2017.

Teaching Writing Skills

Farhad Hasanzadeh also teaches online writing workshops. These workshops help teenagers improve their writing and learn how to tell great stories.

At the end of these workshops, the students' work is published in a monthly online magazine called Moon Children. This magazine lets young writers share their short stories, poems, articles, and other creative pieces with others.

Important Topics in His Books

Farhad Hasanzadeh's writing style is often described as "classic." He often writes about war and how it affects regular people. His stories show a peaceful and kind view of the world.

He also writes about other important topics like moving to new places, not having a home, and living in poor areas. His characters are sometimes people who feel left out. He bravely talks about difficult social issues in his books, which is not common in many Persian novels for young people. For example, his novel Hasti has a strong message about girls' rights.

Awards and Recognitions

Farhad Hasanzadeh has won many awards for his books. He has received several Iran's Book of the Year Awards. He was also nominated for the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award multiple times, in 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2023. This is a very important award for children's literature.

In 2018, Hasanzadeh was a runner-up for the Hans Christian Andersen Award, another major international award for children's authors. He received a special diploma at the award ceremony in Athens, Greece. His novel Hasti has also won several awards, including the Silver Sign award of the Flying Turtle Festival.

In June 2022, he was nominated again for the 2023 Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award. This was partly because his books focus on important social issues, like the lives of girls and modern femininity. He also writes about universal human values such as peace, friendship, and children's rights. He looks at war from different angles and cares about the environment.
