A Look Back: Farmingville's History

The first people settled in Farmingville in the late 1700s. Back then, it had different names like Bald Hills and Mooney Ponds. Even though it's called Farmingville, the land isn't actually great for farming. The area didn't even have its own post office until 1950.

The first teacher in the local school was Elijah Terry. His home was built in 1823. Next to his house is the Bald Hill Schoolhouse, which was built in 1850. This old schoolhouse is so important that it's listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
