History of Fayette
Fayette was first planned out in 1823. The city was named after Gilbert du Motier, Marquis de Lafayette. He was a French hero who helped the United States during the American Revolutionary War. A post office opened in Fayette in 1824. This helped people send and receive mail.
Many buildings and areas in Fayette are considered historic. They are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This means they are important places that tell us about the past.
