Felice Taylor was born in Richmond, California, in the United States. She started her singing journey with her two sisters, Norma and Darlene Flanagan. They formed a music group called The Sweets.
The Sweets recorded two songs that were released as singles. These songs were "The Richest Girl" in 1965 and "Satisfy Me Baby." They worked with music companies like Valiant and Soul Town to release their music.
Her Solo Music Career
Felice Taylor's first song as a solo artist was "Think About Me." This song was released by the Groovy music company. At that time, she was known by her birth name, Florain Taylor.
Her biggest success came after she joined the Mustang music company. This company was part of Bronco Records. There, she worked with talented songwriters and music producers, Barry White and Paul Politi.
Big Hits and Popular Songs
Barry White and Paul Politi helped write and produce some of Felice's most famous songs. One of these was "It May Be Winter Outside (But in My Heart It's Spring)." This song became a minor hit in early 1967. It reached number 42 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and number 44 on the R&B chart in the United States.
Her next song was "I'm Under the Influence of Love." Another song, "I Feel Love Comin' On," was also written and produced by White and Politi. This song was not released in the United States. However, it became very popular in the UK, reaching number 11 on the UK Singles Chart.
After leaving Bronco, Felice Taylor recorded music for Kent Records. Later, she recorded in the UK with members of the band The Equals.
Songs Re-recorded by Other Artists
In 1973, other artists recorded new versions of Felice Taylor's songs. Barry White's group, Love Unlimited, recorded "It May Be Winter Outside" and "Under the Influence of Love." Barry White himself recorded "I Feel Love Comin' On" for the Love Unlimited Orchestra's album Rhapsody in White. Felice Taylor herself stopped recording new music after the early 1970s.
Her Family Life
Felice Taylor was married to Johnny B Taylor. They had four children together.
She passed away in June 2017, at the age of 73. She was laid to rest at the Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, California.
