Felix Brannigan (1844 - June 10, 1907) was a brave soldier from Ireland. He is famous for receiving the Medal of Honor, which is the highest award for military bravery in the United States. He earned this award during the American Civil War.

Felix Brannigan's Story

Felix Brannigan joined the Union Army in April 1861. He signed up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. His first unit was the 74th New York Volunteer Infantry Regiment.

In June 1862, Felix was promoted to a higher rank called First Sergeant. This meant he had more responsibility. However, in October of the same year, he went back to being a Private, which is a lower rank.

Later, in August 1864, he moved to a different unit, the 40th New York Infantry. After that, he became an officer in the 103rd US Colored Infantry.

Medal of Honor

Felix Brannigan received the Medal of Honor on June 29, 1866. This special award was given to him for his amazing bravery during the Battle of Chancellorsville. This battle was a very important event during the American Civil War.
