Fellows is a small community in Kern County, California, United States. It is known as a census-designated place (CDP). This means it is a special area defined by the government for counting people.
Fellows is about 5 miles (8 km) west-northwest of Taft. It sits at an elevation of 1,316 feet (401 meters) above sea level. In 2010, 106 people lived there. This number was a bit lower than the 153 people counted in 2000.
The town is completely surrounded by the huge Midway-Sunset Oil Field. This is the third-largest oil field in the United States. Because of this, the oil and gas industry is very important to the local economy.

A Brief History of Fellows
Fellows started as a busy town when oil was discovered nearby. This happened after the "Midway Gusher" was found in 1909. A "gusher" is when oil bursts out of the ground.
The first post office in Fellows opened in 1910. The town was named after Charles A. Fellows. He was a contractor for the Sunset Western Railroad.
Fellows is also known for a fictional event. The 1969 educational film called The Lottery was filmed there. This movie was based on a famous short story by Shirley Jackson. The film showed a small town holding a seemingly normal event. But it had a surprising and serious ending. This film became very popular in schools. It taught people about blindly following traditions and being unkind.
