Ferenc Bene (born December 17, 1944 – died February 27, 2006) was a famous Hungarian football player. He was a talented striker for the team Újpesti Dózsa. Ferenc Bene is best known for being part of the Hungarian team that won the gold medal at the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. He was also the top scorer in that tournament, scoring an amazing 12 goals in just 5 matches!

Bene was born in Balatonújlak. He played his first international match for Hungary against Yugoslavia in 1962. His last game for the national team was in 1979 against Czechoslovakia. Overall, he played 76 times for Hungary and scored 36 goals. He also won a bronze medal at the European Championship in 1964. In the 1966 FIFA World Cup, he was the top scorer for the Hungarian team. Ferenc Bene was recognized as the Hungarian Footballer of the Year in both 1964 and 1969. He passed away in Budapest after a long illness. His son, Ferenc Bene jr., also became a football player and is now a coach.
