Fernando Daniel Rodrigues Almeida, born on May 11, 1996, is a popular Portuguese singer and songwriter. He is best known as Fernando Daniel. He became famous after winning the fourth season of The Voice Portugal in 2016. He was part of singer Mickael Carreira's team.

Fernando Daniel's Music Journey
Starting Out: Factor X in 2014
Fernando Daniel started singing at school parties for his friends. His first big step into music was in 2014. He joined the Portuguese TV show Factor X. This show is like the famous The X Factor.
He tried out for the second season of Factor X by himself. He was eliminated during the piano stage of the competition. However, the judges liked his voice a lot. They decided to put him in a group with another singer, Luana Ribeiro. They formed a group called BABEL. The group finished in 4th place on the show.
Winning The Voice Portugal in 2016
In 2016, Fernando Daniel decided to try his luck again. He joined the 4th season of The Voice Portugal. For his blind audition, he sang "When We Were Young" by Adele. All four coaches, Marisa Liz, Mickael Carreira, Aurea, and Anselmo Ralph, turned their chairs for him. This meant they all wanted him on their team.
Fernando chose to join Team Mickael Carreira. His audition was a huge hit around the world and in Portugal. It broke the record for the most-watched audition in The Voice history. On YouTube alone, his performance has over 120 million views. He went on to win the show in December 2016. He received most of the public votes.
First Songs and Awards
Singing at Festival da Canção in 2017
In 2017, Fernando was asked to sing a song called "Poema a Dois". This song was written by the Portuguese composer Henrique Feist. He sang it at Festival da Canção. This contest decides who will represent Portugal in the Eurovision Song Contest 2017. Fernando finished in 5th place in the final. The winner of that year's contest was Salvador Sobral. He sang "Amar Pelos Dois", which later won the main competition.
Releasing "Espera" and Salto
In July 2017, Fernando Daniel released his very first original song, "Espera". This song was used in the soundtrack for a Portuguese TV show called "A Herdeira". "Espera" was also part of his first studio album, Salto. This album was released in March 2018.
Winning an MTV EMA in 2019
In 2019, Fernando Daniel won a big award. He received the Best Portuguese Act award at the 2019 MTV Europe Music Awards. He went to the live event in Seville to accept his prize.
Coaching The Voice Shows
Coaching The Voice Kids (2021-2023)
From 2021 to 2023, Fernando Daniel became a coach on The Voice Kids. This is the children's version of The Voice Portugal. He was the first winner of The Voice Portugal to become a coach on the show.
In his first season as a coach, his contestant, Simão Oliveira, won the competition. Simão then represented Portugal in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2021 in Paris. Fernando was chosen by RTP1 to compose the song for Simão.
Fernando returned as a coach in 2022. His contestant, Maria Gil, won the finale. This made him the winning coach for two years in a row! In 2023, Fernando coached for a third season on The Voice Kids. His contestant, Júlia Machado, won that season too. This made him the winning coach for three seasons in a row. He is the first coach in any Portuguese Voice show to win more than two seasons in a row. In 2024, it was announced that Fernando would not return for season 5. He was replaced by Nininho Vaz Maia.
Coaching The Voice Portugal (2023-Present)
In 2023, seven years after winning the show himself, Fernando became a coach on season 11 of the main The Voice Portugal show. His final contestant, Guilherme Baptista, finished in third place.
He returned as a coach for season 12 in the fall of 2024. Fernando's artist, Rafael Ribeiro, won the season. This was Fernando's first win as a coach on the main version of the show. With four wins across all Voice shows, he is now tied with Marisa Liz as the coach with the most wins in the show's history.
