Fernando Lázaro Carreter (born April 13, 1923 – died March 4, 2004) was an important Spanish expert in language. He was a linguist, which means he studied language. He was also a journalist, writing for newspapers, and a literary critic, someone who reviews books and writing.
Carreter worked hard to make the Spanish language better. He wanted people to speak and write it clearly and correctly. This book was a collection of articles where he pointed out common mistakes in language, especially in the media.

Joining the Royal Spanish Academy
Fernando Lázaro Carreter was a member of a very important group called the Royal Spanish Academy (Real Academia Española). This academy is like the official referee for the Spanish language. They decide what words are correct and how the language should be used.
