Ferrell is a small, unincorporated community. It is located within Elk Township, in Gloucester County, New Jersey. An "unincorporated community" means it's a group of homes and businesses that are part of a larger township, not a separate town with its own local government.
The community was named after Thomas M. Ferrell. He was a well-known politician from Glassboro, a nearby town.
Ferrell was originally called Fairview. However, when a post office was set up there, the name had to be changed. This was because another town in New Jersey was already named Fairview. So, the community became known as Ferrell.
