Fairview is a small town, called a borough, located in Bergen County, in the state of New Jersey. In 2020, about 15,025 people lived here. This was an increase of 1,190 people since 2010.
Fairview became a borough on December 19, 1894. It was created from parts of Ridgefield Township. Many towns in Bergen County became boroughs around this time. Fairview got its name because it has a great view of the Hackensack River valley.

Fairview's Location and Land
Fairview covers a total area of about 0.85 square miles (2.19 square kilometers). Almost all of this area is land. Only a tiny bit is water.
This borough shares its borders with other towns. In Bergen County, it borders Cliffside Park and Ridgefield. It also borders North Bergen in Hudson County.
Two cemeteries, Fairview Cemetery and Mount Moriah Cemetery, are found on the western side of the Hudson Palisades.

About 19.6% of the people were under 18 years old. About 12.0% were 65 years or older. The average age in Fairview was 34.6 years.

Fairview is home to some musical groups. One example is the hardcore punk band called Ripface Invasion.
Education in Fairview
Fairview has its own public school system. These schools teach students from pre-kindergarten up to eighth grade. In the 2021–22 school year, about 1,557 students attended these schools. There were 104.5 teachers, meaning about 15 students per teacher.

- Lincoln School Annex (for PreK-K students)
- Number 3 School / Number Three School Annex (for grades 1-4)
- Lincoln School (for grades 5-8)
For high school, students from Fairview go to Cliffside Park High School in Cliffside Park. This is part of a special agreement between the two school districts. In 2021–22, Cliffside Park High School had 1,192 students. The Fairview Board of Education has a representative on the Cliffside Park school board.
Students in Fairview can also apply to special high school programs. These are offered by the Bergen County Technical Schools. They include the Bergen County Academies in Hackensack. There are also Bergen Tech campuses in Teterboro and Paramus. These programs are for students who want to focus on technical skills.
Getting Around Fairview
Roads and Highways
As of 2010, Fairview had about 17.16 miles of roads. Most of these roads are kept up by the town itself. Some are maintained by Bergen County or the New Jersey Department of Transportation.
Important roads that go through Fairview include U.S. Route 1/9, Route 63, and County Route 501.
Public Transportation
Fairview has many bus routes run by NJ Transit. These buses can take you to places like the Port Authority Bus Terminal in Midtown Manhattan. Some routes also go to the George Washington Bridge Bus Terminal or Jersey City. There are also local bus services. Many of these routes meet near the border with Hudson County at a place called Nungessers.
There are also plans to extend the Hudson–Bergen Light Rail through Fairview. This would add a train stop near the county line in North Bergen.
Famous People from Fairview
Many interesting people have lived in or are connected to Fairview:
- Kyle Anderson (born 1993) is a basketball player. He was chosen in the first round of the 2014 NBA draft by the San Antonio Spurs.
- Simon Douglas (1843–1950) was a former slave. He became the last Civil War soldier in New Jersey.
- Vicki Genfan (born 1959) is a talented fingerstyle guitarist, composer, and singer.
- Caitlin Sanchez (born 1996) is an actress. She is known as the voice of Dora on Dora the Explorer.
- John Scarne (1903–1985) was an author and expert on card games, gambling, and magic tricks.
- Julia Scotti is a transgender stand-up comedian.
