In 1970, she went to the Neumann Institute for Design to study graphic design. She also took classes in social communication at Andrés Bello Catholic University. In 1974, Fina moved to Paris, France. Fina Torres's Film Career
While Fina Torres lived in France, she gained lots of experience in filmmaking. She worked as a photographer, operated cameras, edited films, and supervised film scripts.
In 1983, she wrote a movie script with Antoine Lacomblez. She was able to get money to make the film from both Venezuela and France. This led to her first movie, Oriana. This film won the Caméra d'Or award at the important Cannes Film Festival. A film critic from The New York Times called it a "gothic romance," which means it had a mysterious and romantic feel.

In 2000, Torres directed Woman on Top, which was made by Fox Searchlight. This movie starred Penélope Cruz. A critic from Variety magazine said the film was "a fantastical romp" with "exotic locations" and "spicy cooking demonstrations." They also said it was a "contempo fairy tale about thwarted romance."
In 2010, Fina Torres won the award for best feature film at the Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival for her movie Habana Eva. This film also won the award for Best Venezuelan Film at the Margarita Film Festival in Venezuela.

Instead of focusing only on political topics, these films explored everyday themes like relationships and how old traditions meet new ideas. Fina Torres's movies often feature strong female characters. These characters are brave and challenge old-fashioned ideas about how women should act.
In an interview in 2015, Fina Torres shared that she wanted her film Liz in September to help young people.
