Fischenthal is a village and a municipality in Switzerland. It is located in the canton of Zürich, within the Hinwil district. Besides the main village of Fischenthal, this area also includes the villages of Gibswil and Steg. There are also almost 100 smaller settlements scattered around.

Fischenthal has a long history! It was first mentioned in official records way back in the year 878. At that time, its name was Fiskinestal. This shows that people have been living and working in this area for a very long time.

Exploring Fischenthal's Geography

Fischenthal is located in the upper part of the Töss Valley. It is the largest municipality in the canton of Zurich when you look at its land area. The Jona river actually starts its journey near Fischenthal.

The municipality includes the mountain villages of Fischenthal, Gibswil, and Steg. You can also find almost 100 smaller settlements spread out across the Tössbergland, which means "Töss mountain land."

A railway line called the Tösstal railway line runs alongside the road. Fischenthal has three train stations: Steg station, Fischenthal station, and Gibswil station. All these stations are part of the Zurich S-Bahn service S26, which is a local train network.
