Fish Hawk (sometimes written as FishHawk) is a special kind of community in Hillsborough County, Florida, United States. It's not an official city, but it's a place where many people live. Fish Hawk is like a suburb of Tampa. Part of another community called Lithia is also inside Fish Hawk. In 2020, about 24,625 people lived here. The name "Fish Hawk" comes from a nearby stream called Little Fishhawk Creek. This creek flows into the Alafia River.

Where is Fish Hawk Located?
Fish Hawk is in the eastern part of Hillsborough County. The Alafia River forms its northern border. This river separates Fish Hawk from places like Valrico and Bloomingdale. To the south, Boyette Road marks the border. Riverview is to the southwest. Fish Hawk is about 20 miles southeast of downtown Tampa. The older town of Lithia is in the eastern part of Fish Hawk.
The total area of Fish Hawk is about 42.4 square kilometers (16.4 square miles). Most of this area is land, with a small part being water.
What's it Like to Live in Fish Hawk?
FishHawk Ranch is a large, planned community. It has many different neighborhoods spread out over more than 3,000 acres. This community offers lots of public spaces for everyone to enjoy. These include the Park Square Town Center, the Lake House, and several clubhouses.
You can also find an Aquatic Center, trails for biking and walking, swimming pools, and gyms. There are also tennis courts, lakes, and ponds. FishHawk Ranch was the first community in Hillsborough County to be certified as "green." This means it was built in a way that helps protect the environment. People who live in Fish Hawk pay a special fee to help maintain these community features.
Fish Hawk is also known for its excellent schools. Many of them have high ratings.
A Look Back in Time
The areas now known as FishHawk Trails and FishHawk Ranch used to be a large ranch. Different companies started building these neighborhoods in the 1990s.
Before these homes were built, FishHawk Trails was a wooded area. A train track used to run through it. These tracks were removed in the late 1980s. There was even a train station in the Fish Hawk area a long time ago. This station was important for bringing supplies, mail, and food to the people living in Lithia.
Protecting Nature in Fish Hawk
Some parts of Fish Hawk, like Starling at FishHawk and The Preserve, were once natural wildlife areas. The Florida Green Building Coalition recognized Fish Hawk as a "green" community. It was the first in Hillsborough County to get this title. It is also the largest "green" community in the Tampa area. In 2003, the National Arbor Day Foundation praised Fish Hawk for its efforts to protect nature.

Fish Hawk has grown a lot over the years. In 2000, less than 2,000 people lived there. By 2010, the population had jumped to over 14,000! In 2020, it grew even more to 24,625 people.

About 35.7% of the population is under 18. This shows that many families with children live in Fish Hawk. To handle this fast growth, the Hillsborough County School District opened several new schools in the area. One example is Newsome High School, which opened in 2003.
