Fivay was a small community that once existed in Florida. It was located about halfway between the modern-day towns of Land O’ Lakes and Hudson.
What Was Fivay?
Fivay wasn't like a regular town. It was a "company town," which means it was built and owned by a single company. In Fivay's case, it was a company that operated a large lumber mill. A lumber mill is a factory where trees are cut into planks and other wood products.
This town only existed for a short time, less than ten years! Its main purpose was to support the workers and operations of the lumber mill.
How Fivay Got Its Name
When the town first started, it was known by a different name: "Five A's." This unique name came from the owners of the sawmill. All five of their last names began with the letter "A."
These five owners were:
- Martin Amorous
- Preston Arkwright
- Henry Atkinson
- Gordon Abbott
- Charles Ayer
