The national flag of Slovenia is a colorful symbol of the country. It has three equal stripes that go across horizontally. The top stripe is white, the middle one is blue, and the bottom one is red.
On the left side of the flag, you'll see the Slovenian coat of arms. It sits right in the middle of the white and blue stripes. This special design makes the Slovenian flag unique.
What the Flag's Symbols Mean
The coat of arms on the flag is shaped like a shield. Inside the shield, there's a white picture of Mount Triglav. This is Slovenia's highest mountain, and it's shown against a blue background.
Below the mountain, there are two blue wavy lines. These lines represent the Adriatic Sea and the many rivers found in Slovenia. Above Mount Triglav, you can see three six-pointed stars. They are arranged in a triangle shape.
The Stars of Celje
These stars are very important to Slovenia's history. They come from the old coat of arms of the Counts of Celje. This was a powerful and important family in Slovenian history. Their stars now proudly represent the nation on its flag.
