How to Play Flicky
In Flicky, each level is a single screen full of platforms. Flicky needs to collect all the Chirps scattered around the level. Once Flicky touches a Chirp, it will follow her in a line. The more Chirps you collect, the longer your line becomes!
Guiding the Chirps
After collecting the Chirps, you must lead them to a special exit door. This door usually appears once all Chirps are following Flicky. Getting all the Chirps to the exit door safely completes the level.
Enemies and Obstacles
It's not always easy to save the Chirps! You'll face two main types of enemies:
- Nyannyan: These are cats that try to catch Flicky and her Chirps.
- Iggy: These are iguanas that also chase you.
If an enemy touches Flicky, you lose a life. If an enemy touches a Chirp, the Chirp will scatter and you'll have to collect it again. You can defeat enemies by throwing small objects at them, like flowerpots or cups, which you can find in the levels.
Bonus Stages
Sometimes, after completing a few levels, you might get to play a bonus stage. These stages are different from the regular levels and often involve collecting extra points or items without enemies.
Game Development and Release
Flicky was made by Sega, a well-known Japanese video game company. It first came out in arcades in May 1984. Arcade games were very popular back then, and people would play them in arcades or shops.
Other Platforms
After its success in arcades, Flicky was also released on many home systems. These included the Sega SG-1000, which was one of Sega's early home consoles. Later, it even came to the Sega Mega Drive in the early 1990s, letting more players enjoy the game at home. It also appeared on various Japanese computers like the FM-7 and MSX.
Legacy and Fun Facts
Even though Flicky is not as famous as some other Sega characters like Sonic the Hedgehog, she has appeared in other games. For example, Flicky and the Chirps sometimes show up as cameos in other Sega titles. The game is known for its simple but addictive gameplay, making it a classic for many retro game fans.
