Flight of the Navigator is an exciting science fiction movie from 1986. It was directed by Randal Kleiser and tells the story of David Freeman, a 12-year-old boy. David is suddenly taken by an alien spaceship. When he returns, he finds that eight years have passed on Earth, and his world has completely changed.

The movie was first offered to Walt Disney Pictures in 1984. However, Disney didn't approve it right away. Later, another studio called Producers Sales Organization made a deal with Disney. Disney then agreed to release the movie in the United States. Parts of the movie were filmed in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and also in Norway. It was made with a Norwegian company called Viking Film.

How the Movie Was Made

The amazing Trimaxion Drone Ship, which is the alien spaceship in the movie, was created using CGI. This was a very new technology back then! The computer animation was done by a company called Omnibus Computer Animation. Jeff Kleiser, the brother of the director Randal Kleiser, was in charge of this special effects work.

Movie Music

The music for Flight of the Navigator was created by Alan Silvestri. His music for this movie is special because it was made entirely with electronic instruments. He used a machine called the Synclavier. This was one of the first digital multi-track recorders and samplers, which means it could record and play many sounds at once.

Here are some of the song titles from the movie's soundtrack:

  • Theme from "Flight of the Navigator"
  • "Main Title"
  • "The Ship Beckons"
  • "David in the Woods"
  • "Robot Romp"

  • "Ship Drop"
  • "Have to Help a Friend"
  • "The Shadow Universe"
