James Glennon ASC (born August 29, 1942 – died October 19, 2006) was a talented American cinematographer. A cinematographer is the person in charge of the camera and lighting on a film or TV show. They help create the look and feel of what you see on screen. James Glennon worked on many popular movies and TV series during his career.
A Career Behind the Camera
James Glennon was born in Los Angeles, California. His father, Bert Glennon, was also a famous cinematographer. James started his career working in the mail room at Warner Bros.. Later, he moved to the camera department. He even worked as the director of photography for the American team on the movie Return of the Jedi.
Starting in 1970, Glennon worked as a cinematographer on many feature films. Some of these include Citizen Ruth, Election, About Schmidt, and El Norte.
In 2005, his amazing work on the HBO television series Deadwood earned him an Emmy Award. This is a very important award for TV shows. Glennon also worked as director of photography on other TV movies and series. These include The West Wing, Carnivàle, and Big Love for HBO.
His Final Years
James Glennon passed away unexpectedly on October 19, 2006. He had complications during surgery for prostate cancer. He was survived by his four children: Meghan (an actress), Allison, Andrew, and Juliet. He is buried at the Santa Barbara Cemetery.
