Flint Ridge Ancient Quarries and Nature Preserve is a special place in Ohio. It's where Native Americans once dug for a very useful stone called flint. You can find this historic site in Licking County, Ohio. It is about 3 miles north of Brownsville.
Today, you can still see the old pits where people dug. There is also a museum on site to help you learn more. This preserve covers about 250 acres. It became a protected historic place on November 10, 1970.

What is Flint Ridge?
Flint Ridge is a unique area known for its rich supply of flint. Flint is a type of quartz, which is a very hard mineral. The flint found here comes from a rock layer called the Vanport Limestone Member. This rock formed a very long time ago, during a period geologists call the Pennsylvanian age.
