Floats was a special line of drinks launched by the Dr Pepper Snapple company in January 2008. There were two main flavors: A&W Float and Sunkist Float. The main idea behind these drinks was to taste just like a real ice cream float made with your favorite soda. So, the A&W flavor was meant to taste like a root beer float, and the Sunkist flavor was like an orange creamsicle or Sunkist float.
These drinks were very creamy and had only a little carbonation (fizz). They also did not contain any caffeine. Some of the ingredients included skim milk, cream, and nitrous oxide, which helped create the foamy top. Even though it was best to drink them cold, you didn't have to keep Floats in the refrigerator. They came in cool 11.5-ounce glass bottles that looked like old-fashioned soda-shop bottles, with twist-off tops. You could find Floats in big stores, grocery stores, and convenience stores across the US.
Discovering Floats: The Launch
The company first announced Floats to the public on January 2, 2008. This announcement, called a press release, shared details like what the bottles would look like and how much they might cost.
Andrew Springate, who was in charge of marketing for the product, shared his excitement in the press release. He said that for many years, drink makers had tried to create a special drink that tasted like a homemade float. He believed that the A&W and Sunkist Floats were unique treats that people had never experienced before. He added that with just one pour, your taste buds would be amazed, and it was super easy to enjoy, with "no work, no hassle."
