History of Dr Pepper Snapple Group
The company's history involves many well-known drink brands. In 2000, Cadbury Schweppes bought several popular brands. These included Snapple, Mistic, and Stewart's. They also bought Royal Crown Cola that same year.
In 2006 and 2007, Cadbury Schweppes bought more bottling companies. This helped them make and sell their own drinks. It also helped them when other big drink companies stopped selling their products. Some Dr Pepper and 7 Up brands are still sold by other companies. These include Pepsi and Coca-Cola bottlers in certain areas.
Becoming an Independent Company
In November 2007, Cadbury Schweppes announced a big change. They decided to make their drink business a separate public company. This means its shares could be bought and sold by anyone. On May 5, 2008, the drink part officially separated. It became the Dr Pepper Snapple Group.
Sports Sponsorships
Dr Pepper Snapple Group also had ties to sports. They held the naming rights for the Dallas Stars' practice building. This building is called the Dr Pepper Arena. It is located in Frisco, Texas. Because of these deals, the company also sold its drinks at the arena. They also sponsored the NHL hockey team.
Growth and New Brands
In 2008, Dr Pepper Snapple Group bought a part of Big Red, Inc. This company makes Big Red and other flavored drinks.
The company also worked to be more environmentally friendly. In 2014, they announced a big success. They reached their goal to use less plastic in their bottles. Between 2007 and 2014, they used over 60 million pounds less plastic. This helped reduce waste.
On November 22, 2016, Dr Pepper Snapple bought Bai Brands. Bai Brands makes healthy drinks. Dr Pepper Snapple paid $1.7 billion for the company. They had already owned a small part of Bai Brands since 2015.
Joining Keurig Dr Pepper
On January 29, 2018, Keurig Green Mountain announced a major deal. They would buy the Dr Pepper Snapple Group. The deal was worth $18.7 billion. The new combined company would be named Keurig Dr Pepper. It would trade on the New York Stock Exchange.
The buyout was completed on July 9, 2018. Larry Young, who was the CEO of Dr Pepper Snapple Group, retired. He then joined the board of directors for the new Keurig Dr Pepper company.
