The Story of Snapple: How It Began
Snapple was started in 1972 by three friends: Leonard Marsh, Hyman Golden, and Arnold Greenberg. They were in Valley Stream, New York. Their first company was called Unadulterated Food Products. They began by selling fruit juices to health food stores as a side job.
How Snapple Got Its Unique Name
The name "Snapple" came from an early apple juice product. The founders made a fizzy apple juice, but one batch fermented. This caused the bottle caps to "snap" off! They combined "snappy" and "apple" to create "Snapple." This fun name then became the name for their whole drink company in the early 1980s. Snapple didn't even make its first tea, a lemon tea, until 1987.
Snapple's Many Flavors and Types
As of 2025, Snapple offers many different kinds of drinks. These include various tea flavors like lemon, raspberry, and peach, available in both regular and diet versions. They also make juice drinks, lemonade, and bottled water. You can find Snapple in both bottles and aluminum cans.
Snapple's Famous Slogan and Ads
Snapple's well-known slogan is "Made from the Best Stuff on Earth." In the early 1990s, Snapple had popular TV commercials. These ads featured a person called "the Snapple Lady," Wendy Kaufman, who would answer letters from fans. Snapple also used radio ads with famous hosts to promote their drinks. They even signed tennis player Jennifer Capriati to help advertise their products. By 1992, Snapple drinks were sold in every major city in the United States.
Who Has Owned Snapple Over the Years?
In 1992, a businessperson named Thomas H. Lee bought Snapple. Just two years later, in 1994, he sold the company to Quaker Oats for a lot of money. Quaker Oats later sold Snapple to another company called Triarc in 1997. Then, in 2000, Cadbury Schweppes bought Snapple. Finally, in 2008, Snapple became part of its current owner, Keurig Dr Pepper.
Snapple's "Real Facts" on Bottle Caps
Snapple is famous for printing "Real Facts" on the inside of its bottle caps. These are numbered facts that cover all sorts of topics. You can find a list of these facts on the company's website. The "Real Facts" go up to at least #2024, though not every number has a fact.
