What is Comerica Center?
The Comerica Center is more than just a sports arena. It includes the Dallas Stars' practice area and their main offices. There's also a public ice rink for everyone to enjoy. The main part is a large arena that can seat about 6,000 people.
How the Arena Changed Over Time
The Comerica Center first opened its doors in 2003. Back then, it had 3,500 seats. It was first known as the Deja Blue Arena until 2008. A company called Dr Pepper Snapple Group had the rights to name the arena for many years.
In 2008, the arena closed for a big upgrade. This renovation cost about $39 million and finished in June 2009. The upgrades made the arena much bigger.
- The seating capacity grew to 6,000 seats.
- They added 12 fancy luxury suites.
- A VIP club was built for special guests.
- A large parking garage with 1,000 spaces was added.
After these big changes, the arena's name became Dr Pepper Arena in the fall of 2009. It kept this name until 2019.
On January 18, 2019, Comerica Bank took over the naming rights. This is why it's now called the Comerica Center. This deal also meant the Dallas Stars would continue their partnership with the arena until at least the 2023-24 NHL season.
