Florenceville, originally named Florence, started to grow in the mid-1800s. It was a small but active place back then. In 1902, about 58 people lived there. By 1925, the population had become smaller, with only 12 residents.

It also had a post office for sending and receiving mail, and a general store where people could buy everyday items. Today, most of these original buildings are gone, and mainly houses remain.
The village also had a Methodist church. This church closed its doors in the 1960s. However, it still brings people together! Every summer, former and current residents gather for an annual reunion service. The Howard County Historical Society now owns and takes care of the old church building.
