Flourensia pringlei, also known as Pringle's tarwort, is a type of flowering plant. It belongs to the aster family, which includes many familiar flowers like sunflowers and daisies. This plant grows naturally in northern Mexico, especially in the states of Chihuahua and Durango. You can also find it a little bit across the border in New Mexico, USA.
About Pringle's Tarwort
Pringle's tarwort is a shrub, which means it's a woody plant smaller than a tree. It can grow up to about 100 centimeters (or 39 inches) tall. Imagine a plant that comes up to your waist or chest!
Its Unique Flowers
Each Pringle's tarwort plant can have many flower heads. Each flower head grows on its own stem, like a small bouquet. These flower heads are quite interesting.
Each head has two main parts:
- Ray florets: These are like the "petals" you see on the outside of a daisy or sunflower. Pringle's tarwort has between 13 and 21 of these.
- Disc florets: These are the tiny flowers packed together in the center of the flower head. This plant has about 40 to 50 disc florets in each head.
