Fluky's facts for kids
Fluky's is a famous Chicago-area fast food restaurant known for its delicious hot dogs. It also sells food by mail!
The Story of Fluky's Hot Dogs
Fluky's began in Chicago way back in 1929. It was started by Abe Drexler on Maxwell and Halsted Streets. This original stand is famous for creating the first Chicago-style hot dog.
Back then, they sold something special called a "Depression Sandwich." It was a frankfurter (a type of hot dog) on a bun. It came with mustard, pickle relish, onions, a dill pickle, hot peppers, and tomatoes. And guess what? It also came with french fries, all for just 5 cents! That was a great deal during tough times.
Today, the Drexler family still owns Fluky's. You can visit an in-store restaurant inside a Walmart in Niles, Illinois. Fluky's used to have more locations. The last Fluky's in the city of Chicago changed its name in 2006. Another location in Buffalo Grove, Illinois, was open for only a short time.
