Exploring Fodderty and Nearby Areas
Fodderty is surrounded by interesting places with a lot of history. Just a mile to the west, you'll find the tiny village of Bottacks. To the east is an area called Brae or Brea. This area was formed in 1777 from older lands known as Davochcarn, Davochmaluag, and Davochpollo.
Historical Connections
For a long time, these lands were owned by a part of the Clan Mackenzie, a famous Scottish clan. The name "Davochmaluag" comes from a very important early Christian missionary saint, St Moluag of Lismore. He lived a long time ago, dying in AD 592. The church in Fodderty was dedicated to him. Today, only a small mound in the old burial ground shows where this church once stood.
Notable People from Fodderty
Fodderty is also connected to some important figures in Scottish history.
Willie Logan: Builder and Airline Founder
The Fodderty Cemetery is the resting place of Willie Logan (1913-1966). He was a very successful businessman and engineer. His memorial is shaped like a pier from the Tay Road Bridge. This is because his family's building company, based in Muir of Ord, helped to construct that famous bridge. Willie Logan also started Loganair, which is a Scottish regional airline. It connects many parts of Scotland, especially the islands.
Fodderty Today
The town of Dingwall is growing and expanding. It is now getting closer to Fodderty, showing how the area is developing over time.
