History of Football in North Macedonia
The FFM was officially created on August 14, 1949, in Skopje. This happened after World War II, when the Socialist Republic of Macedonia was formed. It was part of the Football Association of Yugoslavia at that time.
The first football group was set up as part of Skopje's sports association. Later, the football section became its own separate group on August 16, 1948. From 1949 to 2002, it was known as the Football Association of Macedonia.
In 1994, the FFM became a member of FIFA and UEFA. FIFA is the world's football governing body, and UEFA manages football in Europe. The first president of the FFM was Ljubisav Ivanov - Dzingo. Andon Dončevski was chosen by the FFM to be the first coach of the North Macedonia national football team.
