Foros Spur facts for kids
Foros Spur is a rocky ridge located in Antarctica. It is about 7.5 kilometers (4.7 miles) long and 5.7 kilometers (3.5 miles) wide. This ridge forms the very southeastern tip of an area called Gromshin Heights. It sits on the eastern side of the northern Sentinel Range, which is part of the larger Ellsworth Mountains.
Foros Spur rises above the Rutford Ice Stream to its east and the lower Vicha Glacier to its west. It was named after Foros Point, a place on the Bulgarian Black Sea Coast.
Where is Foros Spur Located?
The lowest point of Foros Spur is about 1,150 meters (3,770 feet) high. It is found at 77°45′00″S 85°21′10″W. This location is about 13 kilometers (8 miles) east of Mount Warren. It is also about 9.7 kilometers (6 miles) southeast of Branishte Peak. Another nearby peak is Mount Lanning in Sostra Heights, which is about 11.3 kilometers (7 miles) to the northeast. The United States created maps of this area in 1961.
