Fort Mitchell's Past
Fort Mitchell has an interesting history, especially from the Civil War. It was one of seven forts built to protect the city of Cincinnati. The community got its name from General Ormsby M. Mitchel. He was a professor at Cincinnati College (which is now the University of Cincinnati) and helped design these important forts.
Fort Mitchell officially became a city in 1910. Over the years, it grew bigger by adding nearby areas. In 1967, it included a place called South Ft. Mitchell, and in 1999, it added Crescent Park.

Schools in Fort Mitchell
Most of Fort Mitchell is served by the Beechwood Independent School District. This public school system teaches students from kindergarten all the way through 12th grade. A smaller part of the city is in the Kenton County School District.
There is also a Catholic school called Blessed Sacrament, which teaches students from kindergarten to 8th grade. Beechwood High School is well-known and was even ranked among the best high schools nationwide by U.S. News & World Report in 2015.
Famous People from Fort Mitchell
- A. M. Edwards: He was a lawyer and an important government official who served as the Secretary of Guam from 1960 to 1961. He is buried in Fort Mitchell.
