Foster, Washington was once a small community in King County, in the state of Washington. It is now considered a ghost town, which means it's a place where most people have left. In 1989, the area that used to be Foster became part of the nearby city of Tukwila.

What Was Foster?

Foster was a small settlement that grew up around the early 1900s. It was named after Joseph Foster, who was one of the first people to settle in that area. Even though it's not a separate town anymore, its history is still remembered.

Early Days and Important People

The community of Foster started to form in the early 1900s. A post office was opened there in 1903. This post office helped people send and receive mail until it closed in 1907. Besides the post office, Foster also had its own school for children.

Places That Remember Foster

Even though Foster isn't a town anymore, its name lives on in several places. In the 1800s, there was a special spot called the Foster Ferry Landing. This was on the Duwamish River, where boats would cross. Today, you can still find the Foster Golf Links, which is a golf course named after the old community. There's also the Joseph Foster Memorial Park, which is a park dedicated to the early settler.

The Interurban Rail Line

Foster was also a stop on an old electric train line called the Puget Sound Electric Railway. This train was often called the "Interurban." The station, known as Foster Station, was located where a modern-day Park and Ride lot is in Tukwila. This train line helped people travel between different towns.
