The Story of Fox's Biscuits
The company began in 1853 in a small house at 17 Whitaker Street in Batley. A man named Michael Spedding started it. He baked "eatables" (which means tasty treats) and sold them at fairs across northern England.
His daughter, Hannah, later married Fred Ellis Fox. This is how the company got the name Fox's! The original house on Whitaker Street is still there today.
Moving and Growing
In 1927, the bakery moved to a bigger site in Batley. This new location used to be an area for wartime gardens. In 1960, the business officially became a company called Fox's Biscuits.
A company called Northern Foods bought Fox's in 1977. Then, in 2011, 2 Sisters Food Group bought Northern Foods. In September 2013, the Yorkshire Society placed a special White Rose plaque at the first bakery site. This was to remember the start of the business.
New Owners and Awards
In October 2020, a big company called Ferrero bought Fox's Biscuits. They paid £246 million for it! Also in 2020, Fox's Biscuits won a special award called the Lausanne Index Prize – Bronze Award.
Meet Vinnie the "Danda"
On May 28, 2008, Fox's Biscuits launched a fun new TV ad campaign. They spent £5 million on marketing! The campaign featured a character named "Vinnie."
Vinnie is a "danda," which is a mix between a dog and a panda! He was supposed to be Fox's "number one fan." Vinnie traveled all the way across the Atlantic Ocean to tell everyone about his favorite biscuits. He even mispronounced "biscuits" with a "w" sound! The people who created Vinnie also worked on the animation for Disney's The Chronicles of Narnia movies.
