A Glimpse into Fránquez's Past
Puerto Rico became a territory of the United States after the Spanish–American War in 1898. This happened because of a peace agreement called the Treaty of Paris of 1898. In 1899, the U.S. government took a count of the people living in Puerto Rico. This count, called a census, showed that 695 people lived in the Fránquez barrio at that time.

Hurricane Maria's Impact
On September 20, 2017, Hurricane Maria caused a lot of damage across Puerto Rico. The town of Morovis, including Fránquez, was hit very hard. Even many months after the hurricane, some communities, like the school in Fránquez, were still without electricity. People were very upset about the slow recovery.
