Early Life and Education

Fran Charles went to John Burroughs School in Ladue, Missouri. He then studied at Stanford University, where he earned a degree in Communication. Later, he got his master's degree from the Columbia School of Journalism.

Starting His Career

Fran Charles started his broadcasting journey in St. Louis, Missouri. He worked at KSDK-TV as a reporter and news writer. A year later, he moved to Dayton, Ohio, to be a weekend sports anchor at WDTN. After three years there, he became a weekend sports anchor in Boston at WHDH-TV.

Working with HBO Sports

From 2000 to 2007, Charles was a commentator for the HBO Sports show Boxing After Dark. He also worked on other HBO boxing programs. These included KO Nation, HBO Pay-Per-View Boxing, and World Championship Boxing.

Hosting Golf Shows

Between 2002 and 2006, Charles hosted PGA Tour Sunday on USA Network. He was the main anchor for studio parts during PGA Tour events. This meant he talked about golf tournaments from the studio.

Time at NBC Sports

Fran Charles also worked as an anchor and reporter for NBC Sports. He hosted the weekend Sportsdesk show. He also gave live reports and interviews for NBA on NBC. While at NBC Sports, he anchored sports news at WNBC in New York City.

Joining NFL Network

In 2006, Charles joined NFL Network. He shared hosting duties for NFL Total Access with Rich Eisen. From 2010 to 2013, Charles hosted NFL GameDay Final. On this show, he reviewed Sunday's football games. He worked with former players like Steve Mariucci and Deion Sanders.

During that time, he also co-hosted Thursday Night Kickoff. He worked with analysts like Kurt Warner and Jay Glazer. Charles was also a studio host for the Arena Football League coverage on NFL Network.

Appearing in Madden NFL 10

Fran Charles was even featured in the video game Madden NFL 10 by EA Sports. He was the main host of "The Extra Point." This was a weekly show within the game that reviewed football highlights. Alex Flanagan was his co-host in the game.

Moving to MLB Network

Charles made his first appearance on MLB Network on March 9, 2013. He was a studio host during the 2013 World Baseball Classic. He continued to work there for several years. In February 2023, it was reported that he had left MLB Network.
