Francisco Diego Alarcón y Covarrubias (born March 29, 1589 – died May 18, 1675) was an important leader in the Catholic Church in Spain. He was also known as Francisco Díaz Alarcón y Covarrubias. He served as a Bishop in several cities, including Córdoba, Pamplona, Salamanca, and Ciudad Rodrigo.

Life and Work

Francisco Diego Alarcón y Covarrubias was born in Valladolid, Spain. This was on March 29, 1589. He dedicated his life to the church.

Becoming a Bishop

In 1639, Francisco was chosen to become the Bishop of Ciudad Rodrigo. This appointment happened when Pope Urban VIII was the leader of the Catholic Church.

A few months later, on September 18, 1639, he was officially made a bishop. This special ceremony is called a consecration. Diego Castejón Fonseca, who was a former Bishop of Lugo, led the ceremony. Two other bishops, Juan Alonso y Ocón and Timoteo Pérez Vargas, also helped.

Serving in Different Cities

Francisco Diego Alarcón y Covarrubias served as bishop in several important cities across Spain.

Bishop of Salamanca

In 1645, he was appointed as the Bishop of Salamanca. This appointment was made during the time of Pope Innocent X. He served in Salamanca for about three years.

Bishop of Pamplona

In 1648, the King of Spain chose him to be the Bishop of Pamplona. Pope Innocent X confirmed this choice. He served as Bishop of Pamplona for nine years.

Bishop of Córdoba

His final appointment came in 1657. He was named the Bishop of Córdoba by Pope Alexander VII. He served in Córdoba until he passed away on May 18, 1675, at the age of 86.
