Paco Martínez Soria (born Francisco Martínez Soria; December 18, 1902 – February 26, 1982) was a famous Spanish actor. He was also a talented theatre director. He was born in Tarazona, a town in Zaragoza, Aragon, Spain.

Life and Career

Paco Martínez Soria was only five years old when his family moved to Barcelona. This is where he went to school and grew up. He first worked as a clerk, which is like an office assistant. Later, he became a salesperson.

At the same time, he loved acting. He joined local theatre groups in Gràcia, a neighborhood in Barcelona. He performed as an amateur actor, meaning he acted for fun, not as a job.

During a difficult time in Spain, he decided to focus completely on theatre. In 1938, he made his professional debut. He acted in a play called Antonio pasó el infierno (Antonio goes to hell). He performed with the theatre company of Rafael López Somoza.

Just two years later, Paco started his very own theatre company. Throughout the 1940s, his company performed at Teatro Urquinaona. In the 1950s, they moved to the Talía theatre.

Paco also started working in movies. In 1934, he was an extra in a comedy called Sereno. An extra is someone who appears in the background of a film. He worked with director Ignacio F. Iquino on many films.

In 1938, Paco got his first main role in a comedy. The movie was called Paquete, el fotógrafo público número uno. He continued to play smaller roles in many films. But in 1944, he returned to theatre. He became both an actor and a theatre owner.

Between 1942 and 1944, Paco became quite well-known. He was named the director and main actor of the theatre company at Teatro de la Zarzuela.

He returned to movies in the 1950s. In 1965, he had a huge success with the film La ciudad no es para mí (The city is not for me). This movie was directed by Pedro Lazaga.

From then on, Paco was famous for playing a special character. He often played a kind and simple country person. This character appeared in many of his films until he passed away. He worked closely with his friend, director Pedro Lazaga, on many of these movies.
