Sir Francis Bernard Dicksee (born November 27, 1853 – died October 17, 1928) was a famous English painter and illustrator from the Victorian era. He was known for his exciting paintings of stories, history, and legends. He also painted many portraits of stylish women, which made him very successful during his time.

Early Life and Art Training
Frank Dicksee learned to paint from his father, Thomas Dicksee, who was also a painter. His sister Margaret also learned from their father. The family lived in London, England.
Frank started studying at the Royal Academy Schools in 1870 and quickly became successful. He joined the Royal Academy in 1891 and later became its president in 1924. This was a very important position in the art world.
Achievements and Recognition
In 1925, Frank Dicksee was made a 'Sir' (knighted) for his contributions to art. King George V also honored him in 1927 by naming him to the Royal Victorian Order. This shows how respected he was.
In 1921, Frank Dicksee showed his art at the first exhibition of the Society of Graphic Art in London.
Famous Paintings
One of Dicksee's most famous paintings is The Funeral of a Viking, which he painted in 1893. It's now in the Manchester Art Gallery. People at the time had mixed feelings about it. Some thought it was a perfect and grand artwork, while others found it a bit too dramatic or staged.
