Frank Elegar's College Basketball Journey
Frank Elegar played high school basketball at St. Raymond High School for Boys in his hometown of Bronx, New York. In 2004, he decided to play college basketball for Drexel University. Other colleges like Hofstra and Marist were also interested in him.
Early College Years
During his first year at Drexel, Frank did not play much. However, in his second year, he showed huge improvement. He started most games and often scored double-digit points. He also became one of the best players in his conference for blocking shots and getting rebounds.
Leading the Drexel Dragons
In his third year, Frank led the Drexel Dragons in both scoring and rebounding. He was chosen for the All-Colonial Athletic Association's second team. He also made the CAA All-Tournament Team. For his final season at Drexel, he again led the team in scoring, rebounding, and blocks. He was also great at shooting, making a high percentage of his shots. He was selected for the All-CAA second team and the CAA All-Defensive Team.
Frank Elegar's Professional Basketball Career
After college, Frank Elegar hoped to join the NBA. He played in the 2008 Portsmouth Invitational Tournament and an NBA pre-draft camp. He did well at the first event. Even though he declared for the 2008 NBA draft, no team chose him.
Starting in Europe
Frank played in the NBA Summer League with the Washington Wizards. He did not get a contract with them. So, in August 2008, he moved to Germany to start his professional career. He signed with Basketball Bundesliga team Eisbären Bremerhaven. After one season, he moved to Turkey to play for Bornova Belediye.
His second professional season was much better. Frank became a starter for Bornova Belediye. He was among the top 10 players in the Turkish League for rebounds and blocks. His team even made it to the playoffs that year.
Playing in France and Greece
In 2010, Frank moved to France to play for JA Vichy. He had good stats, ranking high in rebounds and blocks. However, his team struggled and was moved to a lower league.
Later, in November 2011, Frank joined Maroussi in the Greek Basket League. This was a tough time for him. The team had financial problems and lost all their games. Frank left Maroussi in February 2012. He then finished the season back in Turkey with Antalya Büyükşehir Belediyesi.
Success with Kalev/Cramo
In the summer of 2012, Frank moved to Estonia. He signed with BC Kalev/Cramo. This team played in three different leagues: the VTB United League, the Baltic Basketball League, and the local Korvpalli Meistriliiga.
Frank had a very good season in Estonia. He played regularly in the VTB United League, which is one of Europe's best leagues. He also performed well in the Baltic Basketball League. Kalev finished third there. In the Estonian league, Kalev won the championship easily. This was Frank's first club championship! He was also named to the All-KML team.
In May 2013, Frank briefly played in Puerto Rico for Cangrejeros de Santurce. He played seven games before leaving the team.
Returning to Kalev and Top Performance
Frank rejoined Kalev in September 2014. He had one of his best seasons yet. He became the starting center and was the best rebounder in the entire VTB United League. He was key to Kalev winning another Estonian league title. He also played in the EuroCup, a major European competition.
The next summer, Frank signed an extension with Kalev. He had an amazing season. He formed a strong partnership with teammate Scott Machado. Frank was the top rebounder in the VTB United League for the 2014–2015 season. He grabbed 203 rebounds in just 18 games, which was a league record! His great play helped Kalev, a team that usually finished last, start winning games and even compete for a playoff spot.
Moving to Top European Teams
Frank Elegar's excellent play caught the attention of bigger teams in Europe. In February 2015, he signed with Italian team EA7 Emporio Armani Milano. He left Kalev as one of their most important players in history.
After Milano, Frank continued his career with several other European teams:
- July 2015: TED Ankara Kolejliler (Turkey)
- July 2016: BC Yenisey Krasnoyarsk (Russia)
- July 2017: Lokomotiv Kuban (Russia)

Early International Success
In 2006, when he was 19, Frank was called to play in the Caribbean Basketball Championship. His team finished second, which earned them a spot in the 2006 Centrobasket tournament. There, the U.S. Virgin Islands won a silver medal! They beat strong teams like the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico. They lost in the final to Panama. This success also qualified them for the 2007 Pan American Games. At these games, they beat Canada, a higher-ranked team.
Facing NBA Stars
A highlight of Frank's international career was playing in the 2007 FIBA Americas Championship. This is the best basketball tournament for teams in the Americas. He played against the United States, which had many famous NBA players. Stars like LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, and Jason Kidd were on that team. The U.S. Virgin Islands lost that game, but it was an amazing experience to play against such legends.
Frank also played in the 2010 Centrobasket tournament. Since July 2015, he has not played for his national team.
Frank Elegar's Player Profile
Frank Elegar is known as an aggressive center. He is a very active player on the court. He fights hard for every rebound because he is very athletic. When he is close to the basket, he can score smoothly. He is especially good at powerful dunks or drawing fouls from opponents. One area he works on is his shooting from farther away from the basket. Also, even though he gets fouled often, his free throw accuracy could be better.
