Rachel Frances Shaw (born 1981/1982 ) is an American actress, writer, and director. She is well-known for her role as Bridgette Bird in the TV show SMILF on Showtime. She also created, wrote, and directed this show, which was based on her own short film from 2015.
Frankie Shaw also played Mary Jo Cacciatore in the TV series Blue Mountain State from 2010 to 2011. You might also recognize her as Shayla Nico from the first season of the TV show Mr. Robot.

Growing Up and School
Frankie Shaw was born in South Boston, Massachusetts, and also grew up in Brookline, Massachusetts. Her parents divorced when she was four years old. She was raised by her mother, who was from South Boston.
Shaw went to Michael Driscoll School and then Brookline High School. When she was younger, she loved playing streetball (basketball) at a park near her school. Basketball was a big part of her childhood. She even included it in her TV show SMILF.
Later, she received a scholarship and moved to a private school called Milton Academy in Milton, Massachusetts. She graduated from Milton Academy in 2000. In 2007, she earned a degree in literature from Barnard College.
Frankie Shaw's Career
After college, Frankie Shaw moved to Los Angeles to pursue acting. She soon found out she was going to be a mother. Her experiences as a single mom trying to work as an actress became a big inspiration for her show SMILF.
Early Acting Roles
In 2009, Shaw started getting noticed for her acting. She appeared in the film The Freebie. She also played the funny and energetic cheerleader Mary Jo Cacciatore in the 2010 TV show Blue Mountain State.
In 2013, Shaw was in the HBO TV series Hello Ladies. She also had roles in independent films like The Pretty One (2013) and the romantic comedy Someone Marry Barry (2014). In 2014, she appeared in the drama film Lullaby.
More TV and Film Work
In 2015, Frankie Shaw was in the TV pilot Tough Cookie and the Fox TV series Mulaney. She returned to her role as Mary Jo Cacciatore in the 2016 movie Blue Mountain State: The Rise of Thadland.
Also in 2016, Shaw appeared in the Netflix series Flaked. She was also a regular cast member on the 2016 TV series Good Girls Revolt.
Creating SMILF
Frankie Shaw's short film SMILF (2014) was a big success. She wrote, directed, and starred in it. The film won an award at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival.
In 2015, Showtime decided to turn SMILF into a half-hour comedy TV show. Frankie Shaw became the showrunner, which means she was in charge of the whole show. She continued to write, direct, star in, and produce the series. The first season was filmed in South Boston and Los Angeles. Critics praised the show for being realistic and funny, especially about the challenges of being a single mother.
Frankie Shaw said that SMILF was her way to show and talk about the experiences of women on screen. Showtime renewed SMILF for a second season in November 2017. The series ended after two seasons in March 2019.
Other Directing Projects
In 2016, Shaw went back to the Sundance Film Festival with another short film she wrote and directed. It was a dark comedy called Too Legit.
Frankie Shaw also had a supporting role in the 2017 film Stronger. This movie was about Jeff Bauman, a survivor of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing.
Looking ahead, Frankie Shaw is set to direct several exciting projects. She is expected to direct a film based on the novel Ultraluminous. She is also working on an HBO series based on the 1978 novel Wifey, where she will write and direct the first episode. She is also attached to direct a film called Kill Switch and an adaptation of the novel Long Live the Tribe of Fatherless Girls. Another project she is set to direct is a film based on the comic book 4 Kids Walk Into a Bank.

In August 2016, Frankie Shaw married writer and producer Zach Strauss.
Frankie Shaw has a son named Isaac Love. She shares custody of Isaac with his father, director and actor Mark Webber.
