Franz "Franky" Schiemer (born March 21, 1986) is an Austrian football coach and former player. He played as a defender, which means he helped protect his team's goal. He was most recently an assistant coach for the English team Leeds United.

Franz Schiemer's Football Journey

Franz Schiemer was born in a town called Haag am Hausruck in Austria. He started playing football as a striker in his hometown of Taufkirchen an der Pram.

Starting Young at SV Ried

Franz joined the youth teams at SV Ried. He was very talented and made his first professional appearance in the 2003–04 season. He was only 17 years old at the time! In the same year, his team finished third in the U17 European Championship.

Playing for Austria Wien

In 2005, Franz moved to another big Austrian club, Austria Wien. He played there for several seasons. With Austria Wien, he helped his team win the Austrian Football Bundesliga in 2006. This is one of the top football leagues in Austria.

Success with Red Bull Salzburg

On April 9, 2009, FC Red Bull Salzburg signed Franz Schiemer. He joined them for the 2009–10 season. He signed a contract to play for Red Bull Salzburg until June 30, 2012. While playing for Red Bull Salzburg, he won the Austrian Football Bundesliga again in 2010. He also won it in 2012 and 2014, making it four league titles in total! He also won the Austrian Cup four times with his teams.

Playing for Austria's National Team

Franz Schiemer also played for the Austrian national team. This means he represented his country in international matches.

Moving from Player to Coach

On January 1, 2015, Franz Schiemer decided to stop playing football. He had faced many injuries during his career. After retiring as a player, he started a new path as a coach.

He became an assistant coach for FC Liefering. Later, on February 13, 2017, he was named the new sporting director for SV Ried. A sporting director helps manage the club's football operations, like signing players.

Brief Role as Head Coach

On April 2, 2018, Franz Schiemer took over as the interim head coach for SV Ried for a short time. He was later replaced by Thomas Weissenböck on April 18, 2018. He then went back to his role as sporting director. On November 14, 2018, he decided to leave SV Ried.

Coaching with Jesse Marsch

For the 2019–20 season, Franz Schiemer became an assistant coach for Jesse Marsch at FC Red Bull Salzburg. He continued to work as an assistant coach, helping teams like Leeds United.
