Club History

Ried Performance Graph
This chart shows how SV Ried has performed in the league over the years.

The club started a long time ago, on May 5, 1912. It was first called Sportvereinigung Ried. For many years, the team played in local leagues in Upper Austria. In 1991, they moved up to the national leagues for the first time. SV Ried then reached the highest level of Austrian football in 1995.

SV Ried won their first big trophy in 1998. They won the Austrian Cup by beating Sturm Graz 3–1 in the final game. In 2003, Ried moved down from the top division. This ended their eight years in the highest league. Two seasons later, Ried returned to the Bundesliga. They became champions of the Erste Liga on May 23, 2005. They won that game 3–2 against Kapfenberg.

In the next season (2005–06), Ried finished fourth in the Bundesliga. This was their best league finish at that time. The year after, they did even better. They finished second and became vice-champions. At one point, the team was in last place. But the club kept trusting their coach, Helmut Kraft. This was a good choice. They went twelve matches without losing. They also won their last five games of the season. This helped them get their highest league finish of second place. It also gave them a spot in the UEFA Cup qualifying round.

In the 2022–23 season, SV Ried finished in last place. This meant they moved down from the Austrian Bundesliga. They went to the Austrian Second League for the 2023–24 season. This was after playing three seasons in the top league. However, they quickly bounced back and earned promotion to the top league again for the 2024-25 season.
