Fred Perpall is an American business leader. He is known for making history in 2023. He became the first Black person to be elected President of the United States Golf Association.

Since 2013, Perpall has been the CEO of The Beck Group. This company builds and designs buildings around the world. He is also on the board of directors for FedEx, a big shipping company.

In February 2023, Fred Perpall was chosen as the 67th President of the USGA.

Early Life and Education

Fred Perpall was born on October 31, 1974. He grew up in Nassau, Bahamas. He was the youngest of four children in his family. His father was an engineer for airplanes. His mother ran a small cafeteria. Fred became interested in architecture when he was a kid. He worked with his uncle in the construction business.

Perpall earned a two-year degree in Architecture. He got this from the College of the Bahamas. He also played basketball for the Bahamas men's national basketball team in 1994. Later, he moved to the United States. He wanted to study more and start his career there.

In 1996, Perpall got his Bachelor of Science degree in Architecture. This was from the University of Texas at Arlington. He continued his studies there. In 1997, he earned his Master of Architecture degree. He also won the AIA Medal of Honor. He later attended a special program at Harvard Business School.

Starting in Architecture

Fred Perpall began his career in 1996. He worked as a project designer at Gideon/Toal Architects. In 1999, he joined Urban Architecture of Dallas. This company later joined with the Beck Group that same year.

Since 1999, Perpall has held many roles at the Beck Group. He started as an architectural intern. Then he became an associate architect. He moved up to become a director. In this role, he helped with many building projects. In 2004, he went to Beck’s Atlanta office. He helped start their design work there. By 2010, he was in charge of the company’s eastern division.

In January 2013, he became the CEO of the Beck Group. He took over from Henry C. Beck III. As CEO, Perpall has led many important projects. These include Dickies Arena and Princess Margaret Hospital in the Bahamas.

In December 2021, Perpall joined the board of directors for FedEx. This means he helps make big decisions for the company.

Leading the US Golf Association

Before joining the USGA in 2018, Perpall was on the board of the Trinity Forest Golf Club. In 2021, he led the USGA's Championship Committee. He also worked on the Amateur Status Committee.

In December 2021, Perpall was chosen as the next President of the USGA. He is the first Black person to hold this important position in the organization's history.

Community Involvement

Fred Perpall is very active in his community. He serves on the boards of several companies. He also spent three years on the Board of Councilors for The Carter Center. This organization works for human rights and peace.

He was also the chairman of the Dallas Citizens Council from 2019 to 2020. This group helps improve the city of Dallas. Fred Perpall is also a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects (FAIA). This is a special honor for architects.

Fred Perpall is married to Abigail Perpall. They live with their family in the Highland Park, Texas area. This is near the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. Fred Perpall is a protestant and is part of the United Methodist Church.
